Alexander,
I enjoy your insights. Thank you.
Regarding .NET Framework, I have to wonder if this will promote or hinder innovation. I’m thinking in terms of how so many of us remain infatuated with the great applications that we first discovered in DOS and how nothing in the Windows world seems to match these. Will we see something similar happen once many developers start building applications in .NET? Will the Brainstorms and Zoots disappear? We’ve observed how many tree-based PIMs with similar functions dot the software landscape (I have a list of 36 different T-PIMs), because there are set controls that developers can buy instead of creating themselves.
Oddly, I think one of the more innovative Windows PIMs in recent years comes from MS, in OneNote. It is really beginning to grow on me. Perhaps it isn’t so innovative, however, as it seems to mimic a few Mac applications I’ve seen. I think we’re in trouble, though, when MS represents the pinnacle of innovation… Someone please tell me I’m wrong!
