Steve -

Most of my work is technical, too, and I am equally infatuated with GV :-). But, as I mentioned to James, I’ve recently started to wonder if, or at what point and - as you rightly point out - in relation to what kind of writing, there might be downsides to the use of outlining.

I’ve come to no very satisfactory conclusion, but your comment about college and high school assignments reminds me, too, that what outlining I did was mostly in my head or on a scrap of paper. I was too eager to get with the business of writing to do much more than that.
