> As you can see, I am trying to talk myself into buying Brainstorm…
Since you have trialed BrainStorm, you are aware of its strengths. One thing that I’ve discovered in using BS is that it is surprisingly versatile. I recently posted this list of some of the ways I use it on the BS weblog:
1. I keep what I call a Work Map. This is a model that parses my job into the various areas of responsibility, and then further parses my job into projects and tasks associated with each area. I don’t refer to this model daily, but only during those times when I suddenly feel overwhelmed by the amount of work on my plate. I find that putting it all into BrainStorm helps me feel in control.
2. If I have a large project, I often turn to BrainStorm to work through the major milestones and steps. I can then merge this model into my Work Map, or bring it into another program for management.
3. Anytime I need to collect a lot of pieces of information from various sources, I use Magic Paste to scoop up the information, then effortlessly arrange the information into a logical structure. For instance, I was researching colleges that have Criminal Justice majors. Do a Google search, click to the first hit, collect the contact information with Magic Paste, then move on to the next college. Repeat until sated.
4. I am building a web site for an organization I volunteer with. BrainStorm is the perfect place to design the structure of the site, and collect information to go on each page.
5. I don’t usually have my laptop at meetings, but when I do, BrainStorm is the perfect application for taking notes, and then making sense of them afterward by arranging them into a logical structure.
6. I keep a BrainStorm model on a USB mass storage device, which I call my Mobile Notes. This way I can transfer information easily back and forth from home to office, or bring it on the road with me. Of course any BrainStorm model can be stored on the USB device, so, technically, all my BrainStorm information can be mobile in this way; however, I choose to keep work and home separate as much as possible. This is how I maintain what little sanity I still have.
7. I keep a work journal (using the wonderful daily log generator), to track dated events that I may need to reference in the future. Magic Paste is a big help with this.
Just to add a little extra oomph to your decision to buy.
