I’ve tried several versions of Inspiration through the years. It toggles between mind mapping (visual outlining) and text-based outlining. It is also taking some good steps toward integrating mind mapping with web design—an area with a lot of promise, I think.
I don’t pretend my thoughts about this are well-organized. But mind-mapping is a superb tool for all kinds of things. I think the real value to the education market is that it allows teachers to quickly provide alternative ways to present information.
Most of us are visual. Then auditory. Then kinesthetic. Outlines, plus pictures, plus sound (a spoken interface to a web page, for instance) help reach a bit part of the class.
Having a tool, or tools, that lets teachers quickly capture and adapt information to various learning styles has to be a good thing.
