I’ve been mostly working in Linux for the past couple of years. But I bought a Mac G5 for the family for Christmas, and along the way, Googled up the TAO. You’ll find more info at http://blue-beach-systems.com/Products/Software/TAO/
I put it through some tests—importing a gig or so of text data (old journal files), and testing its menus and functions. It’s good. It’s a lot like MORE, in fact, with Hoist, Clone, Mark, and Notes. It has a running word count, spelling, and more. It has good keyboard controls, as well.
Lately, I’ve spent a lot of time looking at mind mapping software, graphical outlining. But TAO winds up feeling very comfortable for those of us looking for single pane, text-based writing tools. I anted up the $30 bucks it certainly deserves. I don’t know if the rest of the family will use it, but it’s very fast. I WILL use it.
It also imported (through a “paste outline” function) a lot of data from other computer incarnations.
Has anybody else used this?
I recommend it for Mac users. And frankly, I’m a little surprised that I’ve seen so little about it.
