Thanks for the comments Stephen
But I can’t accept the credit for Sycon’s development work. I think they have both a clear plan for the future and are smart enough to tune into what users are saying.
One thing I have been pestering them about is the search function which includes (in the Pro version) the ability to use the Windows indexer to search both file/email attachments and the contents of user-selected folders on the hard drive. While the solution is ingenious, the Windows indexer is clunky and a resource hog. I suggested (more as a blue sky objective) the desirability to be able launch third-party indexers inside Idea!.
Sycon’s latest public comment is rather revealing of the competitive nature of the software business.
“Indexer: The index will be an internal index for the information within the database itself. It will not replace the use of the Windows Index service (sorry). But we are checking if we can connect to other 3.rd party indexers like X1 (asked them twice if they have an interface but never got a reply), Google, Copernic Desktop search, etc.”
Cross-product partnership development is obviously fraught with difficulties. Let’s hope they have more success with Copernic.
