Check out the open source Gantt Project at
http://ganttproject.sourceforge.net/
It’s got a good set of features and a dedicated developer behind it; it requires Java, just like Freemind.

A simpler approcah is to use an Excel template or plug-in; there are many of these available that you can find through Google. Here’s one from Microsoft itself: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q254008/

Some templates are actually quite sophisticated; though those are not free, they are definitely inexpensive compared to a dedicated program.

Last but not least, there’s a special plug-in for MindManager called MiniProject.
