"There are currently 5 major fields on which we are working.

1. Team Edition:
1a) Team Edition has now the ability to work via the Internet.
1b) Offline Client is now standard part of the Team Edition. The offline client lets you "go offline" with your team databases, work on them without being connected to the server, and then replicate your changes and get the changes from other people which have worked on the database.

1c) Web Client for Team Edition:
A dynamic Web Client for the Team Edition is under construction which lets you access and probably edit IDEA! team databases via a standard browser (in addition to the normal IDEA! Team Client)

2. PAD version (Windows CE)
A reduced IDEA! version is planed to run on a PAD.

3. Single User "Power Edition"
We are currently testing an advanced Single User Edition with the options and features of the IDEA! Team Edition, but for a single user.

4. Some major points for the Single User Edition & Team Edition
Internal index is under construction (for faster search)
Improved MS Outlook integration: Email handling & import from MS Outlook with higher flexibility (e.g. selection from all folders, grouping & search functions in import window) and faster.
Plug In interface (finished) to be able to customize the standard version according to specific needs.
Number of small to medium improvements
5. Content & business templates
Our partners here at Teamstart provide and develop with us special templates for your business and for certain scenarios (e.g. Strategic and Embark Archives). Our common goal is to provide relevant business information which helps you to become quickly even more productive with the package.

So, the picture is to provide a full solution which covers the needs of a single user, gives the option to work in teams (in a LAN, WAN or via the Internet), exchange data between both and PDAs to have them everywhere available. Plus the ability to work offline and replicate your data! In addition to this, a web interface which let's you access (and edit) your team data from every browser (in addition to the Team Client).
Beside the technical platform we find it very important to provide "content templates" and best practice examples for various situations and scenarios. And that's excactly the reason why you find us here on the Teamstart website. Just take a look at the information & presentations in the Teamstart download center.

I hope this gives you an overview where we are going with the system and it's environment."

Jack, thanks for the info; Idea! doesn't necessarily seem what I personally am looking after at the moment, but Sycon definitely seems a company that knows where it's going!

Quoting from their website "You don't count on growing your business by chance, you build successful development step by step".

I think that their partnership concept to provide the knowledge tools along with the content is simply brilliant.

Jack,

After reading the answers to your postings at the Idea! forum, especially re making the UI more flexible, I am becoming more interested in the program. I find its main strengths are its database functions, currently let down by the UI; I admit that the fact that it's European does influence me too.

As you have suggested, the Idea! Professional Edition seems to pack a lot of functionality. At Euro 139.14 (VAT included) it's of course a significant investment as well.

I have tried the Free Edition and read the document re differences in versions
http://www.sycon.de/eng/res/overview_idea_features_full_version.html

There is no mention there of the Personal Edition, which in theory --based on its pricing at Euro 44.95- should precede the Pro. Frankly, I can't understand the differences between the Free and the Personal, though I've been through the relevant pages.

Can you give me a pointer or tip on this?
