I own licenses for both NoteMap and Inspiration. My problem with Inspiration is the completely nonsensical keystrokes you need to add a topic… ctrl-g for a sister topic, ctrl-k for a daughter. I’m sure with a few days of use this would become second nature, but it is so annoying I never get that far. In NoteMap, just typing ENTER gives you a new sister topic that can become a daughter entry with the tab key. To some, this difference may seem inconsequential, but to me it is a crucial difference. In this way, NoteMap is a much more transparent work environment than is Inspiration. Having said that, we all know that NoteMap has its own shortcomings… not allowing inline body text is one of the major ones.
I have never found the diagramming function in Inspiration all that powerful either. It definitely seems a product geared to kids more than professionals.
