Well, the only existing multipane outliner that has outlining in the item editor _does_ store other types of data. Microsoft OneNote is essentially a two-panel outliner, where the item editor has hypertropied to include the best outlining Microsoft has yet offered and numerous other features designed for taking note, and the tree has atrophied to the point of greatly diminished usefulness. If you go to the My Notebook pulldown menu at the left of the section and folder tabs, what you see is the tree that organizes OneNote. It is a tree unlike any other ONLY in that operating on it is futile and viewing it is onerous.
For myself, I would prefer the “metaoutlining” within inline notes, as an option that can be turned on and off per note.

I see your point… it seems unlikely that a two-pane outliner that provided one-pane outlining in its item editor would be able to store other types of data.—Steve Zeoli
