This obviously explains the prevelance of what I call tree-based information managers, or TIMs. I’ve been keeping a list of these programs (using BrainStorm, which may be somewhat of an irony). My list is now over 30 items long, and I have only considered Treepad as one product, not the many flavors it comes in. I also have excluded programs that feature a host of additional database functions in addition to their tree (programs such as Idea!, ADM, Zoot, UltraRecall), because I think they’ve made the tree less important in the overall management of data in each. I’m sure my list is also far from exhaustive.
