InfoSelect is an incredible program. I’ve been using it since V5 or 6. It’s method of helping you find items is not only fast but truly a joy to use because of the way it highlights all found items and helps you get back to where you were last time you were manipulating an item.
Having said that I am moving away from IS (going to Ultra Recall). InfoSelect suffers from feature bloat. There is no real dialogue with it’s developer and you can suggest all you want to their email support but in the years I have been using the program and given them some great suggestions I don’t think I have ever seen any of my suggestions implemented. What we have gotten is a news reader which is useless if you are serious about news reading. An email program whose concept is cool but really does not work very well because it’s not very well thought out how to integrate this functionality in IS. It’s probably fixable but since there is no real dialogue with the user community and the developer it’s impossible for the community to influence it’s development. The palm sync is cool but once again when you dive deeper you realize its not very functional. Since it can’t really accommodate the same functionality on the palm side it only syncs what it can and or changes everything on the fly to be palm friendly if you insist on syncing. What this leads to is some stuff on the palm and others not which is the worst solution because it’s what did not make it over that you usually really need. I have spent $99 a year for upgrades several times and now the upgrade price is even higher which really forces me to go with the subscription service regardless of all the $100’s of dollars I have given them over the years to “own” the program.
Having said all this I will probably renew my subscription if they come out with a new version. InfoSelect does some things so well that its hard to stay away from it although you usually end up moving away again once you rediscover all the wrinkles.
