In addition to the more sophisticated outliners, I would suggest you check out tkOutliner at http://tkoutline.sourceforge.net/wiki/
It is a very simple, yet practical little outline maker. It exports to a variety of formats (asii, html, xml, opml, email). Whether you get the results you hope for with an export to Word, I don’t know, but it seems like you should. It is a stand-alone executable, so you can keep it on a mobile media and take it with you wherever you go.
And, as far as price goes, it is free!
