That’s interesting; it sounds like an archaic concept. Most outliners I’m currently using give you the choice of using it on multiple computers. For example:
[RISK Softworks grants you a license to use one copy of the version of this SOFTWARE in one of the following ways for as many licenses as you purchase: (a) Personally by a single person, who uses the software on one or more computers (b) Installed on a single workstation used non simultaneously by multiple people]
UltraRecall which I recently bought has a similar licensing scheme.
Apparently most modern professionals use at least 2 PCs, their office workstation and a home PC or laptop, so this kind of licensing definitely makes sense.
I have the impression that even recent MS Office packages allow for installation to multiple PCs.
