I don’t think clones are in any way an alternative for what hypertext links have to offer. Ironically, UR’s own manual is structured as a traditional outline, with extensive highlighted linking between items within the text.
I admit that I personally have little use for this kind of cross-referencing; I definitely do see it’s use in a help document though. This would ideally be just one of the many kinds of “linear” output an information manager should be able to create automatically.
After having read most of the UR discussions, I bought a license myself, though I’m still experimenting with the program. At the reduced rate I find it an excellent value for money; in addition, I think that the company’s investment in running the forum offers a significant guarantee for future development.
