The ability do things with the numbers in the columns is significant, I’d say, though why would anyone want to do that in a single-pane outliner escapes me. It is actually the main feature I lack in Myinfo’s column feature.
[What is true, unfortunately, is that an outliner like this one on Windows would cost two to three times as much as Omni. Why is that?]
I think it’s got more to do with the size of the market and the competition within it. Another factor is what kind of Operating System facilities and documentation is made available to developers and at what cost. In Linux, for example, being an open source system, the cost of development is very low.
