Word does have buttons for subscripts, etc., or at least Word 2000 does. I have created two custom toolbars. Here are some of the steps: Click Tools-customize-toolbars. (Or right-click on a blank spot on a toolbar to bring up list of items & then choose “customize…”) Check a “custom” toolbar. Then, choose “commands,” which will show two panes: on left are menus, on right are items under that menu. (MANY more than are on the defaults.) You can pick any command from any of these menus and drag it to the new custom toolbar (or, for that matter, to an existing toolbar or to a menu.) You can even create your own icons.
