[Steve C.: Does Phantech still require a computer-specific registration key? I was always concerned about that, because if the company ever were to close, I’d have no way to continue to use InfoRecall on a newer computer.]
I’ve had a similar concern on file formats; what if I put all my essential data in a program whose vendor went out of business and left me with no support? What if the program I chose failed to run in future operating systems?
I chose Hyperclip among other reasons because its files are standard XML. They can be read/written with any XML viewer/editor including Microsoft’s freeware XML notepad.
Another interesting choice seems to be MyInfo with their Open Import & Export architecture. Quoting from the Milenix site: “open export means that you and your data will never be locked in MyInfo”.
