>I am not sure I can see the advantage to this. In my experience, the two pane outliners are not as agile or flexible when reshuffling the topics as the single pane outliners. I suppose there can be some comfort in keeping the content of an item separate from its heading and just moving the headings around.
Some would outline first and only later insert text.
The products vary in their nimbleness, I think. I would say that the drag and drop movement of headings in ActionOutline is more nimble than that facility in NoteMap. In NoteMap it’s a two-step process, but ActionOutline has the novel method that if you drop on the icon, you get a child, and if you drop on title you get a sibling. For simple brainstorming and subsequent elaboration, ActionOutline wouldn’t be a bad choice.
If as you say these two functions are not only distinct but far-removed—not just different but very different—then why are we discussing outline-based pims on outliners.com. That is, why are the same people with an interest in outliners also interested in outline-based pims? It isn’t just that we all like techy stuff. Notice that my post on wordtoys got no response.
