It doesn’t. Within each list you can add keywords at will; when you add/edit a keyword you are given the choice to make it a child item to another (already entered) keyword of the same list. It’s a very nice way to incrementally build a keyword hierarchy within each independent list (I won’t call it a tree or an outline because I can see the verbal tsunami coming).
As far as I can see, there doesn’t seem to be any limitation in levels, other than the list display. Child keywords are displayed with their parents on the same line of the column, with their parents on the left:
Animal > Vertebrate > Mammal > Whale > Sperm whale
Thus, after a few levels you lose sight of the final child keyword. You can increase the width of the column, but the idea is to have several columns shown so you can easily choose keywords from the various groups, creating a boolean search.
