I am not sure what you are getting at Stephen. It is quite possible to change categories and groups with MDE InfoHandler. In fact, as I have developed my use of IH, I have made a number of changes, rearranging categories and groups so they are more logical.
Also, I do not know what you mean by “a growing but structurally static set of categories,” and that IH doesn’tprovide for a multiple selection of categories. It is precisely IH’s ability to allow for various categories to be selected, separately or in combination, that enables me to retrieve material for a reference that otherwise I would have forgotten. Of course, the ability to use categories well depends on how well I have assigned categories when the material is first entered into IH. While this takes some time, it also is helpful b/c it means that I read the material with more awareness than I might otherwise.
