This discussion has been a blast to read, and enlightening to boot.
Here are two comments:
1. GrandView was, in my opinion, very ergonomic, if by “ergonomic” you mean transparent to its functions. What do I mean by that? I mean, being able to make quick use of its functions with a minimum of distraction. I could do virtually anything in the program with a few simple keystrokes, most of which were highly intuitive once you learned the thoughts behind them (enter created a new heading, the right arrow made it subordinate to the previous header, etc.). I am a big fan of BrainStorm, but I would say that GV was even more nimble, but this may be a matter of conditioning on my part, however. Admittedly, too, the implementation of mouse operation was as clunky as with any DOS program… the power was in the keyboard, not the mouse.
2. It seems quite evident that ergonmics is in the fingers of the user. For instance, Daly has just said that he prefers InfoHandler to Zoot because Zoot’s interface is not inviting… while I have just the opposite reaction… InfoHandler seems too complex to me, while Zoot is pretty basic (I didn’t think that at first, I must admit).
Anyway, thanks for the stimulating discussion.
