Recently I was assisting my son with a school project and we decided to use Inspiration to help.

I was impressed by its ability to toggle dynamically back and forward between a traditional text based outline mode and what they call "diagram" mode with a graphical mind-map type interface.

Can other outliners do this? It's rather cool.

Have you taken a look at Mind Genius (www.mindgenius.com). I believe it will show your mind map as an outline. And it has a lot of features for project management and planning. More of a business tool than Inspiration.
