A program that's really nice was(is) Arrange. It was a program that was bought by CE Software, sold for a while and then killed. It was an excellent database/calender/outliner, unfortunately with a few bugs.
Does anyone know if the program is alive somewhere or if CE Software has "forgotten" about it?

It's dead Jan. It's not "just resting."
Really cool program. Not a great writing tool per se, but a tremendously useful organizing tool. I still use it every day.
It's been described as an object-oriented database with an outline structure, which I think parallels somewhat the description of Frontier, minus the scripting language. I think it might be possible to replicate and even extend much of the functionality of Arrange in Frontier, but there's a learning curve that has to be overcome first.
For the time being, Arrange is fine for me.
