Thanks, Steve! EMSPS doesn’t have GrandView in stock right now, but I’ll keep checking there periodically and on eBay. I’ve also been trying to track down the GrandView demo, since it would be nice to be able to try it out before buying. Apparently Symantec still had the demo available for download on their FTP site as recently as nine months ago (under the filename “gvtrial.zip”) but alas it’s no longer there.
I did manage to find quite a lengthy review of GrandView on a website. It was very informative but I’m still somewhat curious about the overall structure of the program and some of the smaller details. In particular, I’m curious how GrandView differs from Ecco. I know GrandView has a “document mode” where you can view the outline as a word processing document. Obviously Ecco lacks this feature, as well as hoisting. GrandView also apparently has arbitrary cloning, whereas Ecco has various restrictions on cloning. Mark and gather seems identical in both programs. I know GrandView has calendar support, but does it also have the notion of ticklers/“reminders” like Ecco? I suppose if GrandView’s filter language is powerful enough it could simulate Ecco style ticklers even if this is not “built-in”. Am I generally correct in my guesses here about GrandView?
Thanks,
—Chris
