I don't know if anyone else is interested in this development, but I found a third program that uses hierarchies among key words. The program is called NoteLens.(www.notelens.com) Its strongest feature is a remarkable search engine; the keywords are almost an afterthought. Outlining of keywords is implemented in the most rudimentary fashion possible, but it's there, Considering the search engine and that the program's design is based on some sophisticated academic work, the $20 price is almost too good, at least on Windows.

(The price points seem substantially lower on the Macintosh. Hog Bay NoteBook, for the same price, has the same searching functionality coupled with more overall development.)

Stephen,

Thanks very much for the pointer. It looks interesting and I have alerted people over on the Zoot forum to it. Can't download it yet for myself - new computer waiting to be set up; old one short on disk space for .NET. Does it do rtf? I couldn't tell from the blurb on the web site.
