My lukewarm response to ADM may merely be a failure on my part to put the program to a true test. When I tried out a pre-release of version 3.0, I wasn’t wowed by it, and as it would require spending another $130 or something like that, I just couldn’t justifying the expense based on what I saw. I also thought that the meta-deta interface seemed kind of klunky; maybe the poor aesthetic you’re refering to.
I just bought a license. For some I don’t find the interface clumsy now. Maybe I’m more used to Windows conventions or maybe I have been unconsiously digesting the procedures, or maybe it was my recollection of the old conventions of More 3.1, which ADM pretty much follows. Still don’t care for the name. . .
I don’t know how Windows programs do columns, but I recall them from the Mac programs InfoDepot and InControl. ADM does a lot more with them, or in any event, there are a lot more of them, and you don’t necessarily display them all. This complicates the interface, because you can’t just create a column as such.
