Steve,
I agree that it would be nice to get that one, perfect program. It doesn’t seem as if it would be THAT difficult. I am like you, using multiple programs for different purposes. The program I use most consistently is Zoot, which makes collecting text information and then slicing and dicing it to your heart’s content very easy—well, easy once you learn the program, and that can be a little daunting. Zoot’s biggest drawback for me—and it is a big one—is that it converts all text to ascii or plain text. Also, its built-in editor is very weak. So, generally, Zoot is my frontline information processor, the one I use to scoop up text information. When it comes to assembling that text and incorporating it into s more sophisticated document, I dump it into one of several programs. I’ve been using Personal Knowbase, a program that I like a lot, but it too needs a more vibrant editor. What I like about TreeDBNotes, is the ability to insert tables into the documents, which facilitates the ability to create reports for my clients—and then to be able to find the information easily through the tab and tree structure.
Of course, none of these programs is truly an outliner. NoteMap is still the only robust choice in this field, in my opinion. However, I also like BrainStorm for quickly thinking through a process—and for, oddly enough, brainstorming. The developers of BrainStorm seem to be picking up the pace in adding useful features.
The value of this forum, beyond learning of new options, is in learning that there are others out there who share my pain. Thanks.
Steve Z.
