I am slowly going through my lists of PIMs I tried years ago. Here's one that now looks reasonable. Just don't expect customer support to respond, and don't expect the help to be very helpful.
TexNotes 3.4 may be found at www.gemx.com. It has a calendar. The left panel uses both notebooks and notes, but I think you can get by with just the notes. Moving items around is, as with most 2-pane PIMs, a pain. You need to use a combination of drag-and-drop and the up and down icons. It seems rather user unfriendly, at least for what I am most likely to do, but see for yourself. I think the trial period is 60 days.

ADM 2.0 allows three panes, when you choose, but solves the reorganization problem with a "card" to which you can copy multiple topics for pasting.
(Despite its merits) I'm not buying it because it shows few signs of commercial success.)
