Hi, Steve,
You asked: “Would you mind telling me why you found Whizfolders a bit overwhelming? Was it the number of folders or is it the mentioned “routine,” or the way Whizfolders handles files or folders.? “
In retrospect it was a bit unfair of me to lay down that broad criticism of Whizfolders without giving further details. What I am refering to is the fact that several windows open at one time when you are editing a topic (there’s the window in which you select the folder you want to work with, then the folder window opens, and then there’s an editor window)—and then, if you want to open a second topic, you have to kind of wade through the different windows. The developer has added a navigator to aid in this process, but it is still a nuisance. I guess part of my problem with WF is that it isn’t very intuitive. Probably if I would have just committed to the program, I would have developed the kind of feel one needs to make its processes fade into the background—that’s the way I felt about Grandview.
One could make the same criticism about Zoot, but you can also just dump stuff into Zoot and find it easily—there are many, many times I have been able to pull out information from Zoot that I was panickingly looking for.
Not to beat a dead horse, but I keep looking for another Grandview, something that is both a PIM and a great writing environment. Simple, intuitive, dependable tank for storing and organizing information; full-featured editing and outlining. I know this isn’t too much to ask, as Grandview did it.
Now, I don’t have nearly the number of folders and files that you do—not even close. So I imagine that you’re requirements must be somewhat different than mine. I took a look at Jot + 3.0 and did kind of like it, but I guess I didn’t find it such an improvement for me to buy it.
Thank you for the note, and the interesting discussion.
Steve Z.
