Some questions first:

Do you want software for yourself alone or also students? (Students suggests it needs to be free.)

For writing, pure classic outlining software is best.

For research, tree-based “outlining/PIM” software may be better. Do you need graphics as well as text?

Do you want to save a lot of web pages?

Do you need to print or just store info?

I currently use 5-6 different programs to cover all of the above. Answer the above questions to get better answers.
