MS Word style outlines

I've tried many outliners, since discovering the mode (see thread (RadioShak -> TRS80 -> Thought) and , sadly, the only one I've found practical has been the outline mode in MS Word.
Now, I'm moving away from the MS monopoly, towards Linux and OpenSource Software. I really like OpenOffice.org but have been unable to find a comparable mode OR a user group where I might shake a clue loose.
Also, I'm convinced that there is an HTML / CSS outliner out there, waiting to be discovered (or invented)

any ideas ?

Finally someone else who has the same need!!

I have been trying OpenOffice for a while now, and I think it's a good competitor for Ms_Office, except that it lacks the MS_Office "Outline View" feature which I truly love. I cannot find much at the OpenOffice site about this, and was wondering if anyone else even needed it.

Personally, i think its a critical part of any decent word processor, and am a bit dismayed that OpenOffice does not have it -- in spit of being such a complex and large software suite...

Because one of my partners at the website really wanted drop down menus (not yet used) i spent a lot of time exploring the concept and coding.

My take is that the dhtml or javascript collapsible menu format could be adapted to full outlining/content management even by a non programmer like myself. (Or am i still a non-programmer? Are you a non-programmer if you learn just enough to adapt open source cgi and/or php to a local situation?)

I probably won't do that though. Right now i'm figuring out how to do efficient daily site updates with syndication options although penniless! (And i immensely appreciate all i learn here.)

btw. I can't explain how very much i miss ACTA.

Take care.
