Word is just not a good solution for outlining. Even when you outline in Word itself, and it places those pretty automatic prefix labels on the front of what you’re listing, Word doesn’t understand that you are creating outlines with levels that need to be preserved in outline view. List in normal view, then go to outline view, and you’ve got a flat document. Indent and you’ve got crazy formatting. Turn off formating and then you’ve got an ugly document.

Word sucks for outlining—that’s why there’s a market for MaxThink, and More 3.1, and OmniOutliner.
