The more I play with Inspiration 7.0, the more enthusiastic I get. After sending the techs an email saying they still hadn’t included a way of hotlinking to files on my local drive, I discovered they HAD done precisely that. (Sorry, guys.) Any word, phrase, or line in the outline can be hotlinked to (1) a web address, (2) an email address [sets up an email to them], or (3) a file on your local drive.
Whereas I’ve been keeping a daily list of chores in Inspiration (copy the list for each day and then erase an item when it’s done), I’ve now hotlinked: websites (newspapers, weather, university bulletins, etc.), email addresses I use regularly, and daily record files (backups, news summaries, health stuff, etc.). In the past, I’ve used PocketDock, Favorites, and other devices for these purposes, but the outline of hotlinked items is fantastic.
As nearly as I can tell, Inspiration 7.0 does everything MORE 3.1 did, except:
1. you can’t put more than one photo on a line (not a deal-breaker)
2. there’s no provision for creating Rules to apply to portions of the outline
3. they don’t have MORE’s Note feature
They may be missing other MORE features that I didn’t use or have forgotten, but that’s all I noticed.
It’s taken about 20 years (that’s 100 light years in computer time), but I’m satisfied that an old friend has finally been replaced. It’s a little like giving up the memory your first girl-friend (or boy-friend)—made easier by giving her up for Jennifer Anniston (or him for Brad Pitt). Inspiration 7.0 in Mac OSX does stuff I couldn’t fantasize doing in 1983.
The outliner achievement by the Inspiration folks is all the more impressive when you realize (I think) they are more interested in the graphical aspect of these files—especially for use by kids. If you go to their web page, you’ll find virtually nothing about outlining or grownups.
Maybe one day I’ll look at the graphics.
