I thought about this some more and realized that linked nodes can have the same parent and siblings, because two siblings can be linked without generating any problems.
The only thing that’s forbidden is linking a node to its own parent or other ancestor. That would create a sequence which could not be terminated:
- Grandpa
- Dad
- Son
- Grandpa (linked to first node)
- Dad
- Son
- Grandpa (here it is again)
(etc.)
