Converting from Grandview to modern outlining wordprocessor

At last I have to grasp the nettle and experiment with ways of getting my outlines out of Grandview and into a modern word-processor with facilities to outline, and switch between outlining and document views (I assume that Word may be my only choice here(?).)

I've tried exporting from GV in WordPerfect format into Word97, and then switching from document to outline view. But I have to do a lot (A LOT!) of manual re-formatting to achieve a workable outline again in Word.

My questions are:
(a) Is there a better way of directly exporting from GV that preserves its original outline structure in Word? GV has many other alternative exporting formats including More, Thinktank, Ready, Q&A, Wordstar, ASCII, paragraph, tab indented, space indented...; or
(b) Would it be better to export from GV to an intermediary program - say, a modern Windows outliner like Inspiration or Notemap - that has facilities for importing GV files and preserving the outline structure; and thence using their more up-to-date facilities for exporting to Word by RTF (or anything else)?

I haven't tried Inspiration ver 7 yet, but for Version 6 the following does a good job of transferring without much corruption of the outline structure. You can download a free trial version of Inspiration 7 at www.inspiration.com. Inspiration will export to RTF. Note: NoteMap's export directly to Word is defective. Use its rtf export instead:

To import a GV file into Inspiration 6:

In GV,

Change the outline labeling to "Indentation w/no Labels."
Export the file using the "Paragraph" export option.
Add the " .txt" extension to the exported file name.

In Inspiration,

Open the exported file.
The Inspiration outline should have virtually the same structure as the GV outline, with perhaps only a little touch-up necessary.
