Adding another few cents to this issue of Open Source and MORE, in general and specifically. In my opinion, presuming a company “should” make freely available the source code to a no-longer-supported product because the source might have some educational purpose or be “good” for the software “community” shows little respect for the amount of work that went into the product, and little regard for intellectual property in general.
More specifically, as the last developer who worked on the project (I “put MORE to bed,” one could say), a few points of interest that reduce its value as an Open Source possibility:
1. It was in MPW Pascal. Although not difficult, it would not be trivial to port to Metrowerks Pascal, and one might as well rewrite it from scratch. I don’t see anyone jumping on that possibility.
2. It does not use Universal Headers. They weren’t around at that time.
3. It would take some resource a good amount of time to “prep” it for public release. Where’s the win?
Maybe we can write Coca Cola and ask them to release the recipe for New Coke, too.
