Quiver for Mac reaches version 3
12/30/2015
Quiver's GitHub page says that there will be an iOS version of Quiver available for beta testing "in early January". There's a signup link on that page:

MarginNote for OS X is available
12/28/2015
MarginNote for iOS is PDF annotation app + mind mapper + outliner. This is more like three different views of your notes. It's an interesting product for annotating PDFs and taking notes. The anno...
TheBrain 9 -- First Look Preview
12/28/2015
I believe the sign in is because the alpha preview is limited to "active services subscriptions" according to their site. Sync can be turned off for individual brains, and the data are stored locall...
TheBrain 9 -- First Look Preview

I erroneously wrote that "Report" was not yet in the preview -- it is.
Steve -- I've used the preview for a couple of days and find it to be generally stable on OS X. There are many options not pres...
TheBrain 9 -- First Look Preview

Initial impressions
Java is gone. The UI on OS X is Cocoa-like but it does not seem to be using Apple's design kits. Interface is crisp and modern.
The preview is lacking some features (search is ...
TheBrain 9 -- First Look Preview
12/25/2015
TheBrain company has posted a first look preview of the next release -- version 9. The preview is available for active subscribers -- explained here:

Look interesting, but odd. I don't want markdown-aware apps that have special syntax or logic built on idiosyncratic interpretations of standard typography, because that merely creates lock-in and ma...
MarginNote

LiquidText is nice, but it does not have the export features that I like in MarginNote -- export to .mmap or OmniOutliner or Evernote. I think getting notes of out LiquidText could use a rethink by t...
MarginNote

I've been looking for a solution for annotation and organizing annotations and notes in a graphical ("mind map") manner. I can do it with Curio but it's a lot of drag and drop and there's no link bet...
MarginNote
12/17/2015
MarginNote Pro has been making steady advances on the iOS side since I originally mentioned it here. Version 2 is excellent.
Now I understand on good authority that there will very soon be an OS X v...
Very good article -- thought provoking.

List of productivity methods

That is a very useful article. Thank you for mentioning it.
I've always preferred to wander back and forth among many of the methods mentioned by Elliker -- driven mainly by the characteristics of ...
Relational databases
12/11/2015
That's interesting, Bill. I look forward to hearing more.
The documentation discusses importing CSV and Bento. (Who in the world still has actively-managed Bento databases?). Not import from nat...
That's an interesting approach. I have no outliners to suggest -- although various Sublime text outlining plugins might offer possibilities.
Have you considered using various color highlightings as ...
New version of StickyBrain

Antnotes brings it home for $0.99 or Ghostnotes $9.99 but the extra $9 isn't worth it, IMO

Looks interesting, Bill.
$29.99 is steep.
Quiver for Mac reaches version 3
11/18/2015
The really cool possibility, I think, is "composing" graphical notes -- add some TextExpander snippets and away we go. This is a lot easier than using Tinderbox maps, and about 15x cheaper.
If Quive...

Quiver for Mac reaches version 3

Another major release of Quiver ("the programmer's notebook") appeared in the Mac App Store today -- version 3. Quiver's combines various "cells" into a single note: text, code (with syntax highighti...
Manuscripts 1.0

Thank you for pointing this out. It's a purpose-built editor that might be useful for writing papers with illustrations, formulae and citations. Some features seem unncessarily complicated -- e.g., ...
TaskPaper 3?
11/14/2015
Don't get ripped off. The purchase page does not mention it requires El Capitan. Just tossed $9.99 down the drain and will have to go hassle with Paddle to get the funds back.

TaskCard appears

I used TaskCard for a while and put it aside. It has several bugs and some odd quirks that are inconsistent with "standard" OS X app behavior. The biggest is that the red stoplight button deletes ca...
A quick update on OutlineEdit

Thank you, Robin. It's generous of you to post an update on your plans. Good work takes time -- great software takes even longer ;-)
Outlines Outloud

I was curious about this and delved into the accessibilty settings in iOS 9 and found that the Speech settings in Accessibility are better than the Outline Outloud app, and don't require messing aroun...
